Destigmatization as Kairos

Ok. The good thing or the positive side of it is that—a few years ago, there is a lot of stigma and people thought that this is not our problem, it was not our disease, so on and so forth. But now, out of a lot of sensitization and education and information sharing, there is a lot of good response from the community—in the sense of them also being informed, one. Two, from that informed position they are able to integrate. For example, widows whose husbands or widowers whose spouses have died out of HIV/AIDS, we have been able to empower them with some microfinance projects so that they can help themselves. The other side regards the orphans as a result of HIV/AIDS. Without stigma, an orphan is an orphan as a result of HIV/AIDS, or as a result of their parents died from accident, or any other disease—cancer also, so forth. We are able to habilitate them with other orphans. Then, on the other side, is we are able to open some VCT centers inside our mosque complex or Islamic institutions. So those are very positive steps we’ve taken.[156]
